Dryer vents

Dryer vent cleaning for east metro homes

Dryer vent cleaning in MN clears lint out of the duct that runs from your dryer to the outside, so hot, damp air can leave the house and a lint fire has less to burn. Sterling cleans dryer vents across Woodbury and the east metro, in the same appointment as your chimney if you like.

Do I really need my dryer vent cleaned?

If it has been a year or more, or you cannot remember the last time, yes. Lint builds up in the duct a little with every load, and lint burns. A clear vent also helps the dryer finish its job without working so hard.

Homes with a long vent run, several turns or a vent that exits the roof collect lint faster than a short, straight run.

What are the signs the vent is clogging?

Look for clothes that stay damp after a full cycle, a laundry room that feels hot or humid, a dryer that is hot to the touch, or a burning smell. Lint around the outside vent flap, or a flap that no longer opens, is another clue.

What we do

How a vent cleaning goes

  1. Look at the run

We find the dryer, the duct path and where the vent leaves the house.

  2. Protect the area

The dryer is moved carefully, and drop cloths and an industrial vacuum protect the laundry room.

  3. Clear the duct

Brushes and vacuum tools pull lint out along the whole run.

  4. Clean the exit

The outside hood or roof vent is cleared and checked to open freely.

  5. Put it back

The dryer goes back in place, and we walk you through what we found.

  • What it isLint removal from the duct and the outside vent.
  • When it is neededWhen drying slows, or once a year as a habit.
  • What it preventsLint fires, long drying and a hot laundry room.
  • RelatedChimney sweeping fits the same appointment.

Who cleans dryer vents: a sweep or a technician?

Either can, and chimney crews are well suited to it, since we work with brushes, rods and flues every day. Whoever you hire, ask whether they clean the whole run, including the outside hood. A good dryer vent cleaner will say yes.

Can I do it myself?

You can pull lint from the back of the dryer and the vent hood, and that helps. Reaching the middle of a long run is harder. For the hidden middle of the run, a crew with rods and a vacuum clears it without pulling the duct apart, which is hard to match when you clean a dryer vent yourself.

Can you do the chimney on the same appointment?

Yes. Book a sweep and a dryer vent together and we plan one visit for both. Mention it when you call.

Roof-exit vents: is anything different?

A vent that leaves through the roof takes more setup and care, since we reach it from above and the run is longer. The cleaning goal is the same: clear duct and an exit flap that opens freely.

What changes the price?

Dryer vent cleaning is quoted after we see the run. Length, turns and where the vent exits all matter. Our services page shows how pricing works.

Questions

Dryer vent questions

Short answers first.

How long does dryer vent cleaning take?

The length of the vent run, the number of bends and where it exits decide it. Tell us about your setup when you call, and we plan the appointment around it.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Once a year is a sensible habit, and sooner if you do lots of laundry or the run is long. Slow drying or a burning smell means do it now.

Is a lint trap enough?

The lint trap catches most lint, but fine fibers still pass through and settle in the duct. Emptying the trap every load is good habit; the duct still needs cleaning on its own schedule.

Do you clean dryer vents in my town?

Yes, across the east metro, including the towns listed below. Call with your address and we will confirm and book a time.

Can a gas dryer vent be cleaned too?

Yes, we clean the vent duct of gas and electric dryers alike. If you smell gas at any point, leave the house first and call your gas utility from outside.
